Bolivia 2018 – Día Tres

Today started with a delicious home-cooked breakfast of crepes, coffee, and fresh fruit. After breakfast, we piled into two vehicles bound for church.

We were accidentally an hour early to church due to a miscommunication of times, so we spent the extra hour exploring the park across the street.

The church – a Baptist church on the bottom floor of a high-rise apartment building – was led by Pastor Ivan. The congregation is a multicultural mix of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking members. Fortunately, Pastor Ivan spoke English and Portuguese alongside his native Spanish.

Church was filled with loud multi-lingual worship for a while before the sermon, which centered on the topic of Unity with Christ. Afterwards, we joined in fellowship before going to lunch at a local buffet where the food is paid for by the kilogram, not per plate or per person.

After a generous filling of meat, vegetables, and grains of all varieties, we retired to the House of Hope for siesta and coffee. Later in the afternoon, we left for a missions-based church service.

The service was at the Iglesia Calama, the oldest sanctuary in the Bolivian Baptist Union. We heard from several Bolivian missionaries who had been to other parts of the world, including India and Iran.

After church, we returned home for the evening and enjoyed the largest pizza we’ve ever seen.

Tomorrow, we will start work building an extension to a church, laying brick and digging postholes. For now, though, we will enjoy some restful time with our new friends.

Thank you for your support of this trip! Your continued prayer and support is what makes this all possible. We hope you will continue to pray for us, specifically for health in the thin air and heat as we work tomorrow, as well as endurance through the labor.

20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

– Galatians 2:20

  1. Prayers for you all as the reality starts hitting in. Remember to work slowly in the air, it is amazing how different it is from WV!
